Wylie Erwin, 78, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at Embassy Healthcare in Sergeant Bluff. Wylie has been on a long journey and has now arrived at his eternal home with God, his Savior. He has had a strong faith that has sustained him.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Southern Hills Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lloyd Grant officiating. Private family graveside services will be held. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Wylie was born on Nov. 6, 1937, in Wayne, Neb., to Henry and Alberta (Luth) Erwin. He graduated from Concord High in Concord, Neb., where he excelled in basketball. Wylie served in the U.S. Army.
He married Dorothy (Wiese) on Sept. 27, 1959 at Central Baptist Church. Wylie worked at the stockyards for 30 plus years as a cattle salesman. He served a three year term as president of the Sioux City Livestock Exchange.
Wylie enjoyed golf, Nebraska football, basketball, and especially spending time with family and friends. He attended Bethel Baptist and Central Baptist Church for 50 plus years. Wylie had participated in St. Luke's Siouxland PACE, a Program All-inclusive Care for the Elderly. The family is so grateful for their caring support and coming along side of us for the past three years.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Erwin; sons, Scott (Marnie) Erwin, and Bob (Shelley) Erwin; daughter, Jill (Todd) Carlson; son, Dan Erwin and fiancee, Amy Hombs; grandchildren, Andy (Victoria) Erwin, Shayne (Lexi) Silvers, Alex (Ler'n) Erwin, Kori Erwin, Jordan Carlson, and Hayley Carlson; five great-grandchildren; sister, Ardyce Linn; and brothers, Bill (Jody) Erwin, Jim (Mareen) Erwin, Gary (Yvonne) Erwin, and Dale (Jeannice) Erwin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and a granddaughter, Rylie Alizabeth Erwin.
